The towboat Costanzo was originally, the stern-wheel towboat A.R. Budd built for Capt. J.M. Hammitt of the Budd Coal Co. at his Marietta boat yard in 1906. A.R. Budd was traded to Frank Costanzo, owner of the Richland and Costanzo Coal Co. Wheeling, (Warwood and Elm Grove) West Virginia in 1931. Frank Costanzo had the Budd rebuilt at Parkersburg and renamed her Costanzo in 1932. Frank had the uncommon ‘Monkey Rudders’ added to the boat’s stern. The towboat Costanzo was sold to the Kosmos Towing Co. of Louisville, Ky. and Costanzo was then renamed Kongo in May of 1940.
