This Bronze Lindbergh Medal was personally presented to Dorothy E. Rush by Charles Lindbergh as a memento for services provided by the Girl Scouts of Warwood and Wheeling W. Va. August 4th 1927 at 6:30 PM, The Girl Scouts served dinner to Lindbergh and dignitaries at the Scottish Rite Cathedral when he visited Wheeling in 1927. Charles A. Lindbergh made a tour of America following his successful May 20, 21st, first non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean from New York to Paris.
Lindbergh started the tour June 27th and Wheeling was his 12th stop. Wheeling turned out over 100,000 people for the gala. Lindbergh stayed at the Fort Henry Club in Wheeling. The Banquet at the Scottish Rite Cathedral seated 850 guests. Lindbergh was given a honorary membership in the Masons.
The “Whitehead & Hoag Co.” of Newark, New Jersey struck this very rare and collectable Lindbergh Bronze medal.
Dorothy’s father, John Sherman Rush was a 33rd Degree Mason and a member of Wheeling’s “York Rite”
